Type 2 Diabetes – Searching For The Cause of Gestational Diabetes

Scientists at St. Joseph’s Healthcare in Ontario Canada have reported on what could be the causes and potential prevention of Gestational diabetes or diabetes of pregnancy. In January of 2018, their work was published in the journal Placenta. The placenta feeds the fetus and partly takes over control of the mother’s blood sugar level. The mother develops slight insulin resistance, and this then causes her blood sugar level to rise to enable the fetus to get sufficient levels of sugar. In Gestational diabetes too much insulin resistance develops, raising blood sugar levels to a high and unhealthy level.

Oxidative stress, or the production of an overload of ions called free radicals, is thought to be closely linked to the development of Type 2 diabetes and at least some of its complications. Scientists at the Tehran University of Medical Sciences in Iran found resveratrol supplements lowered oxidative stress in a small number of people who had been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. Their work was reported on in January of 2018 in the medical journal Acta Diabetology.

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in August of 04. What I have learned over the past 13 years is that diabetes type 2 can be reversed. I have seen it happen. If you can get your A1c numbers down below 6.0 to say 5.5, then you no longer have diabetes and as long as, you maintain these blood sugar levels, you will be diabetes free.

There is a common misconception surrounding Type 2 diabetes. It has to do with the idea it only afflicts older populations. While the average person does not fully understand diabetes, they do know there are two different types, and one is the kind that strikes early in life. Since Type 2 diabetes is commonly associated with middle-aged adults or those in the later stages of life, it creates a grey area between the two types. If someone develops diabetes before the age of forty, especially if they are in their twenties, it can feel confusing. Unfortunately, we are now seeing adult-onset diabetes striking younger and younger populations.
