Now scientists at the Turku University Hospital in Turku, Finland, have found bariatric surgery helps to heal the heart as well. Their study reported on in the journal Diabetes, Obesity, and Metabolism, included 56 participants between the ages of 34 and 54, with body mass indexes (BMIs) averaging 42 (morbid obesity). Eighteen of the participants had Type 2 diabetes, and 25 were free of high blood sugar levels and diabetes. All had enlarged hearts that functioned poorly and did not take in nutrients well.

Type 2 Diabetes – Plant Protein Intake Improves Muscle Mass in the Elderly

In 2017 the Journal of Diabetes Research reported on a study showing a healthy intake of protein, especially plant protein, was linked with high muscle mass in elderly people who had been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. The study was carried out at the Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine in Kyoto, Japan. A total of 168 elderly people with Type 2 diabetes were included in the study. The participants who ate more significant amounts of protein, especially vegetable protein, had higher levels of muscle mass. From these results, the investigators concluded dietary protein from plant sources, was linked with higher muscle mass in elderly Type 2 diabetics.

Now, according to scientists at the University of Colorado in Boulder and the Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, United States, obesity caused by polyunsaturated fat does not contribute to the development of insulin resistance, the cause of Type 2 diabetes.
